Moth Possible is an art installation at the Freie Universität Berlin’s Philology Library (aka the Berlin Brain) and throughout the university campus. The aesthetic source for the project is the architectural design of the Foster + Partners’ library.
Thirty-three translucent prints were created from Warming's drawings of lepidoptera collections at Harvard Museum of Comparative Zoology and the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin. The graphics include scientific models of Neuroscience and the Psychology of Aesthetics created by 84 international researchers working with the Freie Universität Berlin. This research is integral to the project's metaphors of Brain + Metamorphosis, as the concept was to free the intelligence from the university system.
Moth Possible opened for an audience of over a thousand for Berlin's Long Night of the Sciences citywide event. The US Embassy Berlin sponsored Warming's speaking engagement. Two of the prints remain permanently installed on glass partitions of this special library.
The project was organized by Monika Schade while she served as the Director of the Philology Library. The project was also made possible by Production Assistant Agustin Perez, who helped to create these prints with mp in Mexico.
